Making the Logos becoming your logic

Romans 12:2; "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

The renewing of the mind that Paul admonished the Roman saints to partake of can be defined as making the Logos(The Written Word) to become your logic. The dictionary defines logic as ' a proper or reasonable way of thinking about or understanding something' and also as 'a particular way of thinking about something'. Since logic is a way of thinking, we can conclude that human logic does not run on the same frequency as divine logic.

Isaiah 55:8, 9; "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

God's thoughts are higher than human thoughts. God's ways are higher than human ways. Conforming to the world will create a certain kind of logic.

2 Corinthians 10:3-7 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Paul was explaining that even though we are in the flesh, yet our victory over the flesh does not come with the weapons of the flesh. The word for ‘imaginations’ is 'logismos' which is a compound of two words, logic and cosmos meaning the logic of the cosmos - world system. Therefore it means the logic of this world.  Stronghold is the Greek word ‘uchoroma’, one of the oldest words in the New Testament, which started out as a positive word meaning a fort but by the time the Apostle Paul used the word it had a negative connotation. In its originality it was used to describe a fortress but by New Testament times, this same word depicted a prison, trap, and cage. More specifically it was a death trap. Satan uses strongholds as means to keep believers as well as unbelievers in a place of confinement. It is satan's base of operation, an entrenched position into which the enemy has embedded himself. Satan’s master plan has been fashioning death traps as strongholds. Revelation 12:12 "…Woe to the inhabiters of the earth ... for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. "
Satan uses strongholds as means to keep believers as well as unbelievers in a place of confinement. It is satan's base of operation and death traps
Despite knowing he had a brief space of time, yet satan in his evil cunningness had devised a long term agenda or technique to keep people (believers and unbelievers) in his tentacles and under his evil domain of destruction and death. Since many are oblivious of his techniques  he continues to run unrestrained in people's lives for generations. Being ignorant of the devices of satan gives him an advantage over us. Paul reveals the master plan and chief strategy of satan is 'strongholds' that we need to pull down.
A stroll down memory lane
To better explain stronghold to the Corinthians, Paul reiterated a part of history that they were all familiar with. The five verses Paul employed were a deliberate reminder of the Pirates of Cilicia. You may have seen the box office movie, ‘The pirates of the Caribbean’, well this was ‘The pirates of the Mediterranean’ except that this was not a movie but a real major problem that almost brought mighty Rome, the super power of the day to its knees. Pirates and terrorism are not something new to our generation. They have been around for a long time! History tends to repeat itself again and again. The failure to deal with them when there are only small enclaves is postponed and viewed as a nuisance, only for them to become major players. The Cilician pirates would later become known as one of the ruthless and barbarous pirate groups in the ancient Greco-Roman world, especially to Rome. To their allies, the Cilicians were regarded as aggressive warriors whose swift and aggressive tactics were shocking, even to mighty Rome. When Rome started to fight them seriously, Pirates were declared communes hostes gentium, or enemies of all mankind. The ruthless skills they possessed made them master of the seas, and there was no shortage of offers for their services in times of war. History records their feats but our main concern is the battles between the Romans and the Cilician pirates which spanned from 102 BC to 67 BC particularly resulting in the destruction of commerce due to hijacking, failed cargo delivery and abduction of key political figures.
The Cilicians had three things going for them,

1. Their naval power

2. Forts in the cliff that became known as strongholds

3. Gathering of cold blooded and ruthless renegades who became their pirates

At the time Palestine was the food basket of Rome and the cargo ships had to sail by the Cilician cliffs. The pirates came out of the strongholds, plundered the ships, killed and abducted some on board, stole the food and retreated to their secure stronghold high up on the cliffs. Rome struggled to contain them for years and although numerous generals were dispatched to the region to deal with this rapidly growing problem, success was elusive. All efforts to defeat them at sea failed because at the time, Rome did not have the naval prowess which the pirates had. The record shows that in 67 BC a colossal army of pirates had brought Rome to its knees by cutting off its supplies. An emergency Roman council took place and The law was proposed by the Tribune Gabinius, named the Lex Gabinia of 67 BC which summoned and granted Pompey the Great, extraordinary proconsular powers in any province within 50 miles of the Mediterranean Sea to deal with the Cilician Pirates problem. Pompey had to succeed where all prior to him failed. So with this summon, he called for a substantial fleet, new weaponries and army to eradicate the pirates. It was estimated that Pompey the Great had 270 warships, 120,000 infantry, and 4,000 cavalry. He was given three years to solve the problem but he executed his plans and defeated the pirates in just three months. What was the secret of his success?
He had an astute strategy of warfare. He realized that conventional tactics and weapons were insufficient to do the job. So his strategy was to design and build special mighty weapons in order to attack their forts rather than the individual pirates. Pompey wanted the strongholds of the pirates to be pulled down, so in the ships they installed huge grappling hooks that went in eleven directions to attack the forts. They catapulted the hooks up onto the cliffs to pull down the strongholds that stood defiantly against Rome into the sea. At the same time Pompey had soldiers positioned in order to capture any fleeing pirates. They brought them into captivity to the obedience of Rome. Most surrendered and came into obedience but those who did not were killed for their disobedience.
Realizing that conventional weapons would fail, Pompey had absolute victory by employing new mighty weapons that hit the proverbial achilles heel of the pirates who had no answer to his strategy. Pompey outwitted and overwhelmingly defeated the pirates problem that never reared again. The way to a permanent solution was to pull down their strongholds, rather than trying to fight individual pirate ships or individual pirates.
Your problem is that your life is being terrorized by pirate thoughts that have built a stronghold in your mind hijacking your goods from coming to you. The battlefield is the mind. Strongholds are built in the mind. They are the results of renegade or pirate thoughts and imaginations that were never dealt with. Consequently it built a stronghold. As already mentioned, the word ‘imaginations’ is the Greek word ‘logismos’ which means, ‘reasonings, arguments and mindsets of people in a particular region.’ It is a compound of two words meaning the logic of this world. All these words logizomai and logismos come from the root word Logos. The problem is that logismos is at war with logos.
  • Logos is the logic of the Word
  • Logismos is the logic of the World
The problem arises when you allow the logic of the world to become your logic and neglect the logic of God’s Word. Today many believers have elevated the logic of this world to be above the logic of the Scriptures. They will even argue with you about what the Word says, and cannot take it as final authority in their lives. They will take the word of a doctor above the word of the Great Physician. They would rather believe the words of a secular financial advisor rather than the words of Jehovah Jireh. The questions to ask yourself are,
  • Which one was first?
  • Logos or logismos?

John 1:1 “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Here is your answer, Logos was in the beginning. At first, the logic that prevailed was the logic of God but when man fell he began to fend with human logic which is at is at odds with Logos. Even God echoed this sentiment, ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ (Isaiah 55:8,9)
Logos is the logic of the Word while logismos is the logic of this world. These two do not see eye to eye. Therefore for you to be successful look at life through the logic of the Word.
Human logic was the pirate that hijacked the Logos from people’s minds thus resulting in the terrorizing of their lives. In order to reverse this trend and be free you have to renew your mind with the logic of God’s Word with the understanding that the Word was first. You must give the Word its prominent place in your life to subdue the death traps of human logic. Therefore a simple understanding of renewing of the mind is Making Logos become your logic.
Romans 12;2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Transformation takes place when Logos becomes your logic.
  1. Logismos says you are a victim of sin
  2. Logos says you are the righteousness of God
  3. Logismos declares you are bound by bad habits
  4. Logos declares your body is an instrument of righteousness
  5. Logismos says you are weak
  6. Logos says you are strong
  7. Logismos argues that you are sick
  8. Logos says you are healed
Transformation takes place when logos becomes your logic.
The moment you make the Logos to become your logic then the world, the flesh and devil have to bow before you because they have to bow before the Word. You are in Christ, let His Logos become your logic. Take on the logic of the New Creation and beat the world all the time.
